Six teachers from government schools in New Delhi have been selected for the “Fulbright Teaching Fellowship” and will soon travel to the US for a semester and attend special programs at various universities.
The Fulbright Teaching Fellowship is funded by the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) and takes teachers from selected countries to train them in the essential fields of teaching. The countries covered under this programme are Bangladesh, Botswana, Brazil, Finland, Greece, Kenya, India, Indonesia, Israel, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Philippines, Senegal, Singapore, Taiwan, and Uganda.
Anju Pathak, Manu Gulati, and Deepti Chawla are three among the six teachers selected from India for this professional development program.
While Anju is a mathematics teacher, Manu and Deepti teach English.
According to NDTV, an official statement said, “These teachers will receive intensive training in teaching methodologies, lesson planning, teaching strategies for their home environment, teacher leadership, and the use of instructional technologies.”
Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, who also holds the education portfolio had also suggested certain changes in the CBSE, NCERT and other state education bodies in the 65th Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE).

“Until now we have been using education as a tool to reduce poverty or provide employment and eradicate poverty and have found [ourselves] successful to a large extent, but we have never used education as a tool to solve problems like terrorism,” he said.
If you are a teacher and want to apply for this fellowship, the application process for the current year has started. The deadline is 1 March 2018, and the finalists will be announced six months later, in September. The eligibility criteria for the fellowship include a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of full-time teaching experience.
